We left very early from Yuma to Green Valley AZ for our mile trip. Good thing we did as we figured we had 3 hours to kill before checking in at 2:00 pm.
We hit two Feed Lots, they sure do smell really bad but we do manage to get birds there, the second one is where we got the Ruddy Ground Dove!
the Northern Jacana!
Needless to say we did not check into the office until 2:40. It was pretty painless as they gave us the keys and a bit of info and we were off to our home for the next 3 months.
Dec 31: Final day of 2020.. We have had a good year despite all the cancelled trips and not seeing family and friends. We are healthy and try to enjoy each and every day.
Green Valley is at about 3000 ft above sea level. We don't expect the warm temps of South Texas but expecting lots of sunshine and blue skies.
Today we went to Madera Canyon for some last minute birding.. 5000 ft above sea lever. The temp was 32 and quite chilly. It warmed up to 50 when we left. We did manage to find quite a few new year birds. then a trip to Walmart to pick up necessities for the next 3 months.
We put out some hummingbird feeders and bird seed, within 20 minutes we had 6 birds in our yard! And I can sit in My chair while watching TV and look out the window at the birds! Just like at home!!
Our final bird count: World Life +17 to 691
USA Life +17 to 624
USA Year 476 our highest total ever!! We came in #70 in the USA!!
Dec 2020 218 which is a match for 2019
No complaints for this year. There is always a few birds that elude us but the hunt is as much fun as the find. Hope to make it to Alaska this June...
