The weather was up and down to begin the month. 87 one day, 50 the next then back to 80 two days later. Can't really complain as we did not have any snow this year and the rains have not been as heavy as last year. Although we really do need rain as the ponds are drying up.
We had our Volunteer Appreciation dinner on Feb 9, a little early in the season but a beautiful night at a great location.
Park managers Boyd and Chris handed out the certificates and gifts.
We took our neighbors and fellow volunteers to the Brownsville City Dump to look for birds! It was a bit windy and overcast. The dump upgraded our birding site, and gave us orange vests!
SPI Birding center, we can't go without taking a picture of me and a bird...
We participated in the Trash Bash on South Padre Island on one of our work days. They were looking to clean up 13 miles of beach. We walked and cleaned miles 1-3. The day began with sunshine then the clouds came in, the wind was not to harsh. Great day to be outside...
Feb 23: we headed to Corpus Christi for our days off. We stayed at the Embassy Suites for 3 nights. They had a great breakfast and evening reception. We did get 9 new year birds, including the short eared owl which we had to go twice to find it. We met some other birders from Boston and exchanged numbers so that we could split up to look for the bird. We lucked out and found 2 of them!
We found a few places that we really liked including Leonbelle Turnbell, this place was remarkable for birding! We loved this place, it was small but so many birds!
Out on the beach (Gulf of Mexico), it was a bit cloudy but very warm
Assuming the locals decided to dress up the posts in the park. they were very cute. Some people are so creative!
The weather changed on Tuesday night, on our way home on Wednesday the wind was ferocious and the temp dipped to 50 degs. But we were prepared with our winter clothes.. We knew that Wednesday was going to be cold and windy. All in all it was a great trip, we discovered new places, met some great people and enjoyed our time in the sun.
Repairing the fence one last time? We only have 3 work sessions left this season. We will see....
This month really flew by quickly. A much warmer Feb than last year and very dry compared to last year.
