Packing month Oct 2020

Oct 1 still in Duluth and we got a new life bird!  The White Winged Crossbill!  Was hoping to get a Golden Eagle but not this year.  We might come back later in the month.

Beautiful Golden Crowned Kinglet

Cousin Linda and family was up in Hayward for a vacation.  We were able to enjoy a nice outside visit with delicious hamburgers!  We always enjoy our short time with them.

Our time has been spent cleaning, winterizing and packing for our winter trip. Working really hard on packing light.  We will see once we begin to pack the car.  It was so much easier with the RV, everything came and there was plenty of room..

Eric took a canoe ride on our lake.  The dock guys came to pull ours out this week!

Beautiful blue sky shows off the vibrant colors of fall

the wind and rain has dropped all the leaves from our trees.  We can see the lake from the deck!  That only happens in late fall and early spring for us.

We are on schedule to leave here Oct 27.  Our weather was pretty nice until Oct 15 when the cold fronts came in and kept our temps around 40.  Ouch... cold and windy. The freezer is just about cleaned out except for a few bread items.  Normally we bring a few freezer items and canned/dry goods, this year we will bring no freezer items and hopefully just a few canned/dry items.

Oct 16 first snow!

Oct 20, about 5 inches of snow fell...  Eric feeding the turkeys,  they run towards him until the get too close then then run away until he drops the food on the ground then they run back.  Too funny.  These four are our Mom (Hop A Long) and her 3 remaining kids.  We have a group of 6-8, of a Tom and the rest are females.  When they hear the side door on the detached garage open up they run towards the door then to the feeding area and wait until Eric shows up.

We ended up with about 6 inches of snow, enough to make a snowman!

the trees look nice but...  who needs it?

Oct 22 was suppose to be 41 with rain but nooo  we were 33 with another 6 inches of snow!  We are so ready to get out of here.  only a few more days.

I was hoping for warmer weather (above 40) to make Jiffy Pop over the fire but....  I have been craving popcorn as I ran out and cleaned the popcorn machine in early Sept.  We always buy one package of Jiffy Pop for the road where we make it over an open fire.  Its not the best but it takes care of my popcorn needs.  We have been having snow and very cold weather (-20 deg from normal).  We are running out of time and the temps will be dropping before we leave.

It turned out pretty good!

Tuesday Oct 27; 12 degs this morning with some snow on the ground.  We leave for the winter today! This will be a different year in our travels.  First night on the road will be Mason City Iowa.
