Nov 2020 Utah

We arrived in Moab on Wed Nov 4.  little town very cute.

Our hotel

One bedroom apt on the first floor, one block from downtown Moab. We went to dinner at Zak's right on our corner.  Good food, outside and good service.

Nov 5: we headed to Arches National park for the day.

One crazy sign in the bathroom!  Who does that???

Lots and lots of arches and outcroppings, we were able to find many animals and people in the outcroppings.

Landscape Arch

After a nice walk on the path near our hotel we stopped for a beer then dinner at Dewey's.

Friday was a bit overcast and very windy.  We managed to get a few walks in and 2 more year birds.  401!!

Mill Creek Falls

Saturday Nov 7 we head to Richfield UT 175 miles away.  We expect rain and wind on todays journey.  So far we have been lucky with dry roads and little wind.  Today was very windy. Not too many places to stop on this route.  The mountains were mouth dropping beautiful drive.  We got to the hotel a bit early but they let us check in, good thing because within 15 minutes of checking in, the rains came! And the wind was pretty strong too.  We watched the celebrations and speeches of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris all night.  Good night to be stuck inside.

Sunday Nov 8 we have 165 miles to St George.  Our weather looks to be turning to "not so good" for the next 3 days.  A bit of cold windy snowy rainy weather on our way to St George.

We did manage to find a few hiking trails closer to St George.

Roadrunner

Luckily our room was ready by 2:00 pm so we could check in early for the night.  We have a one bedroom, whirlpool suite with a small kitchen ( microwave and fridge) and two bathrooms!  We really like to have a door on the bedroom.

We got a notice on our phone that the Gov of Utah has put a mask mandate into effect today (Mon).  When we went to Walmart yesterday we did notice that they had  signs that everyone had to wear masks but about 25% of the people in the store did not have any face coverings on.  Guess it is catching up here in Utah....

Monday Nov 9:  We went to Zion National Park, temp 32 and snowing...

snow on the cactus!

looking for the California Condor..  never found them

Tuesday was our local St George day.  We hiked many trails around the Virgin River, enjoyed the 45 deg sunny skies. A more relaxing day than yesterday.

Wednesday Nov 11: Late start from hotel as we only have 120 miles to our next destination.  And we can not check in until 4:00 Pacific time.   We took our time leaving the hotel (10:00 am), stopped a few places, even had lunch at an outside cafe, arriving at the Meridian Condos at 3:30 pm.  It took us a bit to find our unit and to open the locks etc but we got it all done!  We are here until Dec 1.

  3. Cool! I've been to Moab tons.. I grew up in Utah. Next time try to get breakfast at Jailhouse Cafe, say hi to my mom in Richfield, and be sure to spend time at Capitol Reef.
