Thanksgiving 2022. Las Vegas

We flew from McAllen TX thru Dallas to Las Vegas on Monday Nov 22.  Our flights were pretty uneventful.  We did have a great meal on the flight from Dallas to Vegas.

We arrived at about 1:40pm.  40 minutes to catch the bus to the Car Rental building. Long lines and few busses made for the long wait.  Car Rental at Enterprise was pretty uneventful.  We go a dark gray Dodge Charger.  A bit low to the ground for us old folks to get in and out easily!

We drove to the Clark County Wetlands for a walk about.  While we were on our way to Albertsons the low tire indicator came on!  We went to a gas station, the unit would not take a charge card so we had to get $2 in quarters in Albertsons.  We did a bit of shopping at Albertsons for our breakfast needs.  Filled up the tire and headed to our hotel.

Our room is 1715, top floor overlooking the strip. We spent the week enjoying the Platinum Hotel in the Princess Suite.

Tuesday we left the hotel at 6:30 am.  The tire was really flat!  drove to the airport car rental and exchanged it for a Chevy Malibu.  its light gray and low to the ground!  what the heck...

It did not take us long to get that accomplished and we were off to Floyd Lamb Park, Desert National Wildlife Refuge and up the mountain to Mt Charleston, 8400 feet above sea level.

Our birding was not too good today.  We looked and looked but the birds did not cooperate although we did get one new year bird.

Beautiful day for a dip in the pool!  Don't know if we have ever been here at Thanksgiving and used the pool!

Kathy and John Castro made it here from Santa Rosa Calif today.  We met them at their hotel, which is right next to ours.  We have not seen them since Thanksgiving 2019.  They both look great, although Kathy has had some medical issues.  We went to dinner at their hotel, Kathy had a seizure so dinner was interrupted.  We finally got to eat our wonderful dinners.  We sure did miss them the last two years.

Not sure if I ever had this beer before, it was really good.

Wednesday we headed to the Henderson Birding center and the Pabco wash. Its as a bit windy but sunny and mid 60's.  Again the birds are doing a good job of hiding from us.   We did get to visit with Kathy and John in their room for an hour or so.  She was better today.

I needed a Nap!  I ended up getting 2 hours of wonderful sleep.  The time change gives me fits.  Eric took his at the pool!  I am on the 17th floor he is on the 5th!

Happy Thanksgiving!  Roberta and John flew in from Phoenix in time for us to all enjoy a nice lunch!

Wonderful dinner at Tucson in Kathy and John's hotel.

Our turkey dinner was fabulous. Great service and it was not so noisy that we were actually able to have a conversation!  Fun time with fun friends.  We are so grateful to have them as our friends.

Friday we met up for breakfast then  the Castros left for home (Santa Rosa, CA). We went with the Gaskills to Sunset Park for a wonderful walk and time to catch up.  After the big breakfast we did not want to eat a big dinner so we met at Harrahs in the Oyster Bar for Grilled Oysters!  They were sooo good.  We missed them last year!

Saturday the Gaskills flew back to Phoenix. We headed to Lake Mead.  the water level is sooo low.

It was a beautiful day to be out by the water.  The sun was shining, the wind was calm and the temp was in the low 70's!

dinner at Garden Ramseys Fish and Chips.  We ate here last year, its a bit pricy but Oh so good!

A lot more people out and about this year vs last year but not as many as the year before.

Sunday our final day in Vegas!  Another beautiful day in Paradise.  We went to look for the Mandarin Duck.  Found them!  Then off to Red Rock Canyon.  We love the colors and views here in Nevada. We took one more walk at the Henderson Birding Center before getting our packing done.

Dinner at Mon Ami Gabi

We began with Escargot that was very very garlicky!  Our steak frites were so tender and delicious.  this is one of our fav places to eat in Vegas.   But.... eating garlic then wearing a mask is not a good combination.  Oh boy...

We lucked out with the weather this week. Above normal temps, little wind.  So happy to spend time with friends we have not seen in 2 years.

Our bird count for Nevada. 40 new month birds, 2 year birds.  the birds were a bit elusive as they have been everywhere we go this year.

Monday Nov 29:  time to head home!  Looking forward to some moisture in the air! Our journey home was uneventful except for the 1 hour delay in DFW airport.  We like our Little house, it is half the square footage of the condo in Vegas!
