We have been keeping our mailperson busy with packages from Amazon. Our new addition is lights on the wood shed. Of course we are rarely out after dark but....
Rita and Rick Vasko (neighbors) came by for burgers and a Swedish Torch. Swedish Torch is a way to make a fire with little wood and can be used as a stove.
Ours had a bit of trouble, the guys could not get it going. We are thinking the wood was just too hard. It was very dry but just not capable of getting going. we have to try it again..
We took a ride out to the Tree Farm on May 18. There was a lot of snow damage during the winter especially in Rusk County. We did not sustain too much damage. some trees had bent or broke off but mostly birch and poplar trees. the evergreens faired pretty good.
Saturday May 20: off to Ashland for a few nights. The Chequamegon Birding fest began on Thurs but we did not sign up for any activities. They have a new system where you call in to make reservations. We were on the road to Kansas when they finally answered my call on my 75th try and 2.5 hours later.. well the night owl walk was already filled.
Good trip up to Ashland. We stopped at a few of the Hot spots, ran into 2 birding groups and seen a number of birds. the weather was warm, near 80 by afternoon with little wind. Dinner at our hotel was really good. We both had Canadian perch.
Sunday was a bit cooler, we left the hotel by 6, heading to Bark Bay to look for the Boreal Chickadee. It's a winter bird but a few are staying behind. No luck.. we looked for a few hours but no luck. We did see plenty of other birds. A few more stops in Bayfield before a quick rest. Dinner at Deep Water Grill in downtown Ashland. Good white fish and ribs...

Monday we had breakfast at the hotel, they don't begin serving until 7! We headed out for a fun day of hiking and birding. 1st to Iron River, Port Wing and a few stops in between. The weather changed a bit from yesterday. not as windy but still cool. Dinner at the Stagecoach bar. Pretty good burgers.
Headed home on Tuesday, we had a fun weekend on the Big Lake.

Memorial Day Weekend, we picked up Rick and Rita by their dock for a float on Mud Lake. We planned our Sunday Fun Day! Saturday we went into Spooner to the Canoe Heritage Museum for a few hours. It's a fun place to see beautiful canoes, new and refurbished. Sunday Fun Day, out on the pontoon by 10:00. Fun day on day on the lake, it went by so fast. We ran into various neighbors and friends, stopped by the Rockford House for a beer and music before dropping off Rick and Rita at 5:30. The weather was perfect, the company was fun, the food was delicious with plenty of laughs. Perfect way to spend the day.
Monday was pretty uneventful. Beautiful day to just hang around the house doing little chores.
