Its already August!

Where did the summer go?  Can't believe that it is already August.  We start the month by celebrating my birthday, it takes about a week or so to completely celebrate.

Dinners, lunches and some wonderful breakfasts round out the week.

We headed to Schaumburg Il on Aug 10 to celebrate the Gaskill's 50th Wedding anniversary.  On the way down we stopped in Wisconsin Dells for the night.  We made a stop at

and found a few hiking trails too!

the celebration was at Arlington Race Track, the Million Dollar Day.

Roberta and John

Me, Roberta and her sister Donna

the Whole family!

Beautiful day at the races! Everyone enjoyed the races, food, drink and of course the company.

On Sunday we went canoeing in the near by lake.

This was near our hotel too!

Our final stop in Illinois on Sunday night, our favorite pizza!

Back in Wis Dells we found the most wonderful Pan Fried Walleye!

Our plums are ready to harvest!

Cousin Linda was up at her cabin in Hayward from central Illinois.  We were able to celebrate her birthday!

Aunt June, Cousin Debbie, her husband Dennis and Linda's husband Dan all came for the day.  We went fishing...

Aunt June caught the first fish, the biggest fish and the most fish...  and the only fish...

Watching the eclipse, unfortunately about 1/3 of the way into it we had clouds..  oh well..

Cold temps came our way along with lots of rain...

Off to the Minnesota Great Get Together.... Monday Aug 28-30!  We stayed near the Excel Center in St Paul at the Hampton Inn.  The room was beautiful and the view phenomenal.

I grew up in the city of Chicago, so I really like the city noises.  I like our very quiet NW Wisconsin sounds of silence is comforting but the sound of the city is like being home to me.  The busses, sirens,  trains, trucks and people outside of our window brings me back to my youth.

The state capital

the Cathedral

We arrived at the fair at about 3pm on Monday on the city bus.  New and favorite foods were on the agenda for the day.

one of the new foods, fried avocado, very good!

Duck bacon wantons, another new food, also very good

Elvis was there too!

We had tickets for the Grandstand to see Frankie Vali and the 4 Seasons.  At 83 he could still sing and hit those high notes!  Fun concert, beautiful temperatures and clear sky made for a great evening.

the new 15 story ferris wheel looked great at night.

Tuesday we took the hotel shuttle to the fair.  We arrived about 9:15am.  Another beautiful day, no new foods but some of the basics, cheese curds, corn dogs etc...

they always have a fly over on Military Day

Wednesday we took the car to the fair as we will leave from there to go back home.

The Dog show was fun...

Until Next Year....

A great visit to our favorite place, wonderful weather, great music, food and people watching.  the only unfavorable thing was the prices of food and drink were elevated quite a bit from last year.  The price of admission was the same but the food and drinks were 2-3 dollars more than they should have been.  There were some new foods we wanted to try but not willing to pay $10 for a tamale!  Saying that we found plenty to eat and drink...

Bird count  still at 573 for life count, we added one to the year count 290 and the month came in at 102 which is not bad for August.

  1. I'm sorry it took me so long to read this blog, it was one of the best ones ever. (my appearance did help with that decision) Also very sorry we missed the Great MN get together this year it really looked like you had a great time. Thanks for coming down for the great Illinois get together, race track day with the Gaskill clan. You are a sister and a great friend.
