October 2017

The leaves are really turning fast, yellow and red with splashes of green.  They look so beautiful when the sun is shining on them. A lot of leaves on the ground too.  Cool temps then warm, rain then sunshine, October is a time of constant change.

We went to Apple fest in Bayfield Wi on Lake Superior, the day was quite beautiful, sunny, no wind and about 60 deg.  We stopped a number of time before arriving at the fest including a few stops to look for birds in Ashland.

We have never seen it so crowded on a Friday, but the weather for Saturday was not looking good.

One of our favorite foods was the wild rice burger, fresh made on the spot.

Saturday we went to Cranberry Fest in Stone Lake Wi.  Its only about 10 miles from our home.  The weather was cool, rainy and a bit of wind, so much different than yesterday.  We had a good time walking, eating and drinking.

It is also time to get ready for winter, clean the gardens, winterize the motors and lots of cleaning and putting stuff away.  We have lots of stuff to put away!

Peak colors in the north woods!

We have been working on volunteer opportunities since March, well, we did not land one this year.  Hurricane Harvey is partly to blame as we are intending on going to South Texas this year.  Harvey wiped out some RV pads at the refuge, not sure why the others never responded.  But it is all good.  We are planning (if the weather co-operates) on coming back in March to make maple syrup, something we have not done in a few years.  If we come back in March anyone who would like syrup is more than welcome to come to Wisconsin to make their own and enjoy the process. We need the weather to cooperate in the spring.  Daytime temp around 40 deg and nighttime below 32 are perfect temps to get the sap running.

Oct 23: we are off.....
