After setting up we just stayed in the park, walking around and checking with the ranger. The park is also an old port city. Steamships would stop here to trade their wares.
Since there are only 20 sites there is plenty of open space.
Mon Nov 5: we got out early as the rain was coming. We headed to Bald Knob NWR about 25 miles from here. there are not any trails but plenty of birds and gravel roads to walk.
There are a lot of rice fields in Arkansas, who knew? We had gone past the Riceland plant where a Budweiser truck was parked?? After scratching our heads for a moment we both said "Ah, Bud is made with rice!" Since we spend so much time in the vehicle driving around we spend a lot of time contemplating "stuff". It has to make logical sense or we have to talk about it for hours!!! Or finally make up a story that fits the situation.
The rain began by 11:00 am and didn't stop until about 6 pm. We have been known to walk in the rain but this was a hard rain with thunder. Turned out to be a good day for cleaning and odd jobs in the RV.
Tues: We went to Jonesboro
its a beautiful nature center with a nice walking path that connects to the Craighead Forest walking paths. The path around the lake in the forest is 2+ miles and pretty level. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed our leisurely walk around both places. Diesel prices have come down, finally! $2.78 at Kroger!
Since the sun was out we took a walk to our town... the courthouse has been refurbished. they give tours of the building but we wanted to be outside as much as we could. They are building a brand new visitor center that should be opening soon.
As we were sitting outside reading our books a car pulled up to our site. An elderly couple got out and was admiring our RV and Truck. They visited for a while until the lady bugs got the best of us..
time to move on.. tomorrow Nov 7 we are heading to Hot Springs AR about 140 mile trip.
