Kansas, Missouri, Iowa then Home!

We drove about 255 miles straight north to Wellington KS.  We stopped at a KOA for the night.  Strong storms were predicted for both OK and KS, we wanted to get set up before the storms arrived. We got to the park at about 12:45, with no rain in sight we headed into town to do a bit of walking. The rain did not come until about 6:00 pm, but when it came it rained very hard.

On Sunday morning we headed to Wallace State Park in Cameron Missouri. We stayed there in the past.  Of course we are obsessed with the weather.  We look at the forecast and decide when and where we will go.  Earlier this week the weather at home looked to be perfect for us to arrive home between Thurs-Sat.  Now they are calling for 12-19 inches of snow!  not sure we can get up the driveway with that much snow.  Time to reevaluate our plan.

On our journey the fog was so thick we stopped after 9 miles on the road at the tollway Oasis.  We waited for about 2 hours before getting back on the road.

We arrived at the campground around 2:30.  It's a nice park to hang, have a great fire and do a bit of walking. There was a couple at the campground that we met when we were at Big Cypress NP in Florida a few years ago.  We are always amazed when we run into random people we have met on the road.  We have met plenty of "birders" across the country but this guy has an old Porsche that was in need of help.  He stayed at Big Cypress for a week or so while working on his vehicle.

Nice day for a fire! Kathy started the fire without a match! Yes, no fire started was used to get this going.  As it turns out it was still warm from someone else's fire! I put the paper down on the ashes and thought hmmm... it feels warm but the sun was out, and its been a long time since I started a fire. After putting the kindling on the paper I seen smoke then like magic the fire started!

Our second GPS died...  not sure what we do to make them quit working. Maybe a new charger will fix the problem.

We hope to get to Clear Lake State Park in Iowa on Monday then head home on Tues before the storm arrives.

Monday April 8: Looks to be a great day for travel.  We left Missouri by 7:40, clear skies with some wind from the SW.  Arrived at Clear Lake by 1:10, 260 miles.  Nice little park, lots of campground spots and a beach but no hiking.  We managed to walk around for about 2 hours, we walk slow..

We found snow!  It was about 75 and sunny.

The couple with the Porsche showed up at about 4:00!  how weird is that!  we never talked to them about where we were headed.  We went for dinner at the Tap House in Mason City, great burgers!

Tuesday April 9: after 5 1/2 months we will be back home.  Looking forward to summer in the Northwoods.  todays journey is about 255 miles.  we expect good weather for todays drive.

We arrived at home at about 1:30.  The driveway was tricky, smooshy and soft but Eric dragged the RV through the gravel and some mud.

Time to unpack, clean and set up electronics.  Glad to be home.
