October 2022

We started the month by attending the Stone Lake Cranberry Fest.  It was a bit overcast with some sprinkles for the first 90 minutes, then it began to rain a bit harder!  We did manage to get a cranberry brat and a corn dog before giving up and going home.

Boy, we have so many tomatoes that I experimented making some homemade V8 juice.  Well mine was actually V4..

it was a bit messy as I have not used the juicer in a long time.  Next time it will be easier...

the juice was pretty good, a bit sweeter than preferred. We had to make a Bloody Mary

Although we love living out in the boonies, one of the disadvantages is trying to get someone out to do some work.  We usually have to make multiple calls to find help.  And sometimes we don't get calls back or they just say no.  Our dock guys have stopped servicing our lake, so we had to call a few other places and they said no or they would get back to us.  We thought we might be able to take them out ourselves.  No luck...  We will see how they make it thru the winter! 

Oct 4: Long morning in Rice Lake.  Oil change on the Buick, We got our Updated Covid boosters, Menards and Walmart shopping, filled up the truck and car with gas, a 2 mile walk along the river, banking, lunch and picked up our check from Barron Co-Op!  All before 1 pm.  whew, we needed a nap after all the running.

Oct 5: our annual Fall Photo

Friday and Saturday Oct 7-8,  the snapping turtles escaped their nest!  They were walking all over the yard, we seen at least 100 of them.  We looked for the hole where they climbed out of but no luck.  The little guys were all covered in mud and all heading north. 

Saturday Oct 8:  Our neighbors had a "It's Fall Y'All" party with Chili, Campfire and Live Music!  A great afternoon/evening to catch up with the neighbors and listen to some great music and eat some really great food!  

Sunday Oct 9:  I suspect I will not be making my "Step Goal" once we are on the road.  Today I made 150 days in a row!

Time to bring up the canoe, Eric finally figured out how to do it a bit easier!  For the past 20 years he has been carrying it up on his shoulders.  Work smarter not harder...

Tuesday Oct 11: Final golf game at Lynndale.  We did pretty good considering the wind was really blowing, but the sun was shining, the temp was about 75.  Our roofer showed up to replace the roofs on the detached garage and the sauna.  They did not finish today, will do so tomorrow.

Oct 12: finished job!  looks good

Rita and Rick V. brought over dinner!  It was a delicious pulled pork and Cole slaw.  We had a little bit of rain while enjoying the campfire.  Sure going to miss these two while we are gone... 

Oct 13: Pam and Terry H. came by for pizza and a wonderful visit last night.  We have not been able to visit since spring..  It was fun catching up 

Oct 14:  look what we woke up to!!!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Our final two days in the Northwoods was spent packing, cleaning, winterizing etc.  The temps turned cold with little wind. 

Oct 17: okay the temp in the morning was 32 with a wind chill being 24!  Looks like we will have 3 cold days then break out the shorts!  And we are off, 10:40 am

it won't look like this when we arrive in Donna TX.  I am sure I forgot to keep something important easily accessible...
