February 2024. Green Valley AZ

Feb 1: after a light breakfast we took Roxy for a morning walk around Canoa Ranch, it was a bit windy but beautiful day.

we did look for Rattlesnakes but no luck!

time for a nice swim and Hot tub.

a bit of phone time....

We took Roxy to the Wind Phone to call her Mom!

We did find a Gopher Snake while on our walk!

Why does it have a "heart" on its head??

A bit cooler today!  We had rain overnight and the cold front came on in. Up to Madera Canyon and Wrightson picnic area

We met up with Roxy's brother Ted, wife Sheryl, Sheryl's best friend Jill, Sheryl's mom Ellie and step dad Dave for lunch.  What fun we had...

Saturday Feb 3:  We picked up our rental car and Debbie G and Betty R at the Tucson airport.  A very good lunch at El Merendero, then grocery shopping before heading to our rental house.

Sunday Feb 4: Swoops showed up!

Beautiful day to go to the Gem show on 12th Street in Tucson.  We only did the two main tents.  Wow, what a show.  So much to look at, lots of gems, rocks, fossils, etc..  lunch at Eegee's, pretty good sub sandwich.

Off to the Saguaro National Park for a walk around the visitor center and drive on the loop trail.  Picked up dinner at Cracker Barrel then to the hot tub for relaxing and stories.

What a wonderful day, the sky began a bit cloudy but ended up clear and sunny.

Monday Feb 5: off to Tombstone AZ.  We walked the streets with lunch at the OK Cafe.

Started a fire! Purification with sage (bought at the gem show), cake and Baileys for dinner.

Tuesday:  lazy day began with breakfast at IHOP.  Fun relaxing time yapping it up.

we hung around the house, enjoying the hot tub, the sky was cloudy and threatened rain.  Strong wind came in about 1:00.

Dinner with Roxy's brother and sister in law at Calle Tera, a Mexican restaurant, the food was sooo good.       Then off to the Gaslight theater where we seen a very fun show.

Wednesday: time to say goodbye until next time.  Eric picked me up at 9:00 am.  Always great to hang with friends, but always good to get back to routines!

Saturday Feb 10:  we went up the canyon at 5:30am to find Owls. the sky was clear but clouded up while we were there then the snow began at 6:30 am!  Never seen the snow so far down the mountain, good thing we got off of there by 7:00!

Super Bowl Sunday!  The sun is out, it was a bit cool when we went for our walk, but it quickly warmed up.  Hopefully our "winter" here in Green Valley is over!  Forecast is for sunny skies and warm weather.  45 at night, 70 during the day.  perfect for us...

Monday Feb 12:  We found a new place to walk, Cienga Preserve in South east Tucson.

Hmmm... A castle in the desert?

We then met with Jeff for lunch at a Thai restaurant in Tucson.

We finally got a couple of Local Sonoran Hot Dogs from a Vendor on the side of the road!  Very good, included is a bacon wrapped pepper!

more food!  Portillo's for lunch... oh so good, Italian Beef and Maxwell Street Polish

Saturday Feb 17:  while enjoying a fire in the Chiminea we looked up and saw a Moon Dog/ring

Finally a couple of days of warm weather!  Pool time here in Green Valley.  But that will change...

Feb 11:  yes that is snow in the mountains!

Wed Feb 21: a fun day birding in Tucson, a wonderful lunch at Teresa's Mosaic.  this place had a fire in 2022, took 14 months to reopen this Jan. It was very crowded and very good.  Great service too.

and to the movies!  We have not been to a movie theater since??  before Covid..  the theater was pretty empty!  There were 5-6 other people scattered throughout the place!

up to Florida Canyon for a fun hike, we had to cross a couple of streams.

A family of Harris' Hawks

Friday Feb 23: We were invited to Jeff's for pizza today.  We met his neighbor Joan, what a delightful afternoon we had, eating, drinking and chatting..

Tuesday Feb 27:  We are off to spend two days with Ray in Scottsdale/Fountain Hills to visit with cousins Christie and Doug, who have a winter place there.  We left right after the trash was picked up, 7:30.  Our first stop was for breakfast at Teresa's Mosaic, Huevos Rancheros were pretty good.

We stopped at the sod farms to look for a few birds, at a park for the the Tropical Kingbird and at Gilbert Riparian Preserve for the Streaked-Backed Oriole.  We found all the birds except for the Oriole. We arrived at our hotel at 3:00.  Ray arrived about 10 minutes before us.  We unpacked then took a walk around the area.

We met up with Christie and Doug at the American Grill.  We had such fun catching up.

Wed: Eric and I took a walk around the Fountain before breakfast.  Beautiful walk, lots of people walking, jogging and dog walking.

Wednesday is Market day along the road, lots of vendors, crafts, food etc..  We did buy some delicious Smoked Pretzels and a bear claw.  Both were very good.

Eric, Ray and I went to Frank Lloyd Wrights Taliesin West for the audio tour.  A bit pricy but very good.  Eric and I had been there a few yeers ago for the guided tour.   What a story and what a place.

We headed to Christi and Dougs at 2:00.  She was having Mexican day!  Great appetizers and dinner.  We took 3 golf carts to check out the neighborhood.  What a wonderful place they have here in Arizona.

Thursday Feb 29:  time to go home...  we met up with Ray at 7:00 for breakfast.  We stopped a few times to walk and bird.  We did hear the Streaked Backed Oriole, a good lunch at In and Out!  Getting home by 1:45.    What a fun two days we had visiting with family.
