March 1: One more month here in the valley before we head back to Birchwood! The month began with sunny sky and a little breeze. Our neighbor Jeane invited us over for a cocktail. She is from Turtle Lake WI. Our neighbor in both states!
March 6 we met with Jeff for a wonderful lunch at Saigon Flavor right here in Green Valley. The food was very good, the service needs help.
We finally made it to the White Elephant! Been attempting to go there for a few years. It's a "thrift" store. People donate, people purchase, the money goes back into the community. It was very crowded and lots of stuff!
It was a rainy day with clouds covering the mountains in the afternoon. Which means it was a "Brandy Old Fashion" kind of day!
We tried a new restaurant, (new to us) Goyitas New Mexican, lots of Hatch peppers used in the selections. Tacos and Enchiladas were pretty good.
Weather Balloon? we seen it while in Tucson, we are not sure what it is?
March 12: cows in the road!!
Finally made it to the Wednesday Farmers Market! We tend to forget it is on Wednesdays from 9-1. We brought lunch home from a street vendor.
Thursday March 14: Hawk watch. Common Black Hawk
met up with Jackie and John (from Rice Lake) in Tubac for a fun lunch.
Friday March 15 was a rainy day! But a good day to get the oil changed on the Buick, cleaning the house etc.. Lunch at the New Mexico Restaurant for Green Chili Clam Chowder
a bit too hot for me but Eric says it is a repeat!
Mon: we headed up Florida Canyon, we went from 4300 ft elevation to 5000 ft! 62 floors on our Fitbit.
Tues: up to Mount Lemmon which is about 9000 ft, obviously we drove up! We did find some snow, although we expected to find a lot more as it just snowed up there on Sunday.
Oh boy, it's almost time to leave!
We spent Wed walking on flat ground! the last two days were very steep walks. Over 100 floors gained in the last two days. today just one floor! Good day for a hot tub and sauna.
Thurs March: lunch today with Jeff and Joan at Sushi Lin. Lunch was delightful. We will not see them again until November!
Friday: went to the fitness center and pool, Jeff was there! how fun that was. A great night for a fire.
Sat: our final Tucson day? a bit overcast, great lunch at Guiseppe's Italian Restaurant. too windy for a fire today.
Sun: cold and windy today.. went looking for the Beryline hummingbird again this morning. Oh it was cold, and no bird...
Packing and getting ready to leave a week from today.
Wednesday March 27: we left the house at 4:30 am to go listen for the Whiskered Screech Owl. got him and a Common Poorwill! We went looking for the Beryline Hummingbird for the 3rd time, Success! Lifer 670 in the USA! this bird is from Mexico and sometimes crosses the border to invade Arizona!
Thurs March 28: Great day for hiking and birding. Weather was perfect, sunny, little wind and a few birds showing their faces. A bit of time at the pool in the afternoon, also a great night for a fire. might be our last here in Green Valley as strong winds are forecasted for the next two days.
Fri March 29: well we were able to have one more fire!
Saturday March 30: our final day here in Green Valley. It is suppose to be very very windy, we will spend the day packing our stuff into the car. Hope it all fits!
Sunday March 31: Happy Easter. We are off for Sierra Vista today. 3 nights there. The weather does not look great but we will make the most of our road time. Of course we started our journey at 8:00 am. and the rain began at 7:55! but only a light rain, we were able to stop at one last birding spot in Green Valley. By the time we arrived in Patagonia State Park the rain was done, (for awhile). We got a nice walk in before the winds became very strong. Since it was so windy we did not stop at any open fields to look for birds. just too windy.
Violet Crowned Hummingbird
The hotel notified us our room was ready by 11:30! We arrived at the Hampton Inn at 1:30. We found a nice bag of treats in our room! After a little break we tried to walk at the San Pedro house, we did a mile walk but the wind was very strong and lots of cottonwood trees by the river. cottonwood trees are kind of weak and can lose their limbs in strong winds!
We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. the place was packed! it was 4:30ish. No problems with the economy here in Sierra Vista. The service was very good, Eric's chicken very good, my beef tips just ok.
Forecasting cold temps tomorrow, had to dig out the flannel lined jeans to bring up to our room.
Well it's been a wonderful 5 months here in the valley. We are meeting more people, finding more restaurants and activities. We completely enjoyed this house with its fantastic view, chiminea and comfortable bed. We got 4 new life birds since we left home, hoping to get at least one more before we get back to Birchwood.
