June 7, we had a good ride home from the airport, not too much traffic, a quick stop at the grocery store. the grass was really long, we had to do two cuts! A few o four birds came back, along with a few deer but no Sandhill Cranes...
A tree fell on the pole barn!
Looks like the tree broke off at the roots.
June 9: we volunteered to lead a birding canoe trip on the Yellow River in Spooner today.
We ended up with 49 species and chilled to the bone! Went to Economist for a hot bowl of chili and a wonderful donut! A sauna in the late afternoon to get our bones warmed up! What the heck its June 9!
June 12: UPNorth Tree Guy came to take the tree off of the pole barn! what an operation
June 15:
June 16: Ray got up early and headed back to MSP. the heat and humidity was forecasted for today. And to try the A/C for the first time this year. It worked perfectly, of course it did not get hot and humid until about 4 pm... We went to play golf with the group at Tagalong, had a fun time, a few very good shots and of course some bad ones. We did not stay for dinner but did stay for a drink.
June 17: a very rainy day! we are in a holding pattern for rain. at least 1+ inches per day. good time to clean up closets..
Poppy is still coming by for corn by himself. hopefully we get a colt soon...
June 21 Summer Solstice no sign of Poppy for two days... Maybe...

June 24: we had two Sandhill Cranes come by for corn, no colt! not sure if they are "our" cranes. Keeping our fingers crossed.

June 25: Off to Hayward for lunch with cousin Linda and Danny. We met at Coop's Pizza for a buffet lunch. I forwarded my 70 Tiera to Linda for her 70 birthday in Aug.. she wore it proudly!
We took a nice boat ride on their pontoon, fun afternoon with my favorite cousin.
June 28: off to Red Wing MN for Steve and Lori's daughter's (Grace) wedding. It began to rain about 3 am and expected to rain off and on all day! We left about 8:30 am for our 125 mile journey. We were able to stop a few times as the rain stopped by 9 am.
We went to Elsworth Cheese factory for some cheese curds and butter. Then a stop at Common Man in Elsworth for a wonderful lunch. Cheese curds, hamburgers, salad and fries. also delicious Draft Root Beer. the hamburgers were very very good. Hopefully we can eat here again sometime.
Off to Barn Bluff for a walk before checking into the America Inn for 2 nights. Wedding is at 4:30 with reception to follow...
the wedding was very nice, it was on a golf course, inside the Skyline Event Center. After the ceremony they removed all of the chairs and put the tables up for our dinner.. Lovely deck to hang on while they worked inside. Dinner was buffet style, pretty good food. Music and dancing afterwards.
Saturday we headed to the state park and other hiking/birding spots. the river is overflowing so we were not able to go to all of the spots we had planned on going to.
Lunch in Red Wing at Kelly's Tap Room, delicious pulled pork sandwich and German Polish Sausage.
After a short break we headed to Treasure Island to donate a few dollars then to Red Wing Brewery for a beer. It turned out to be a wonderful sunny day, a bit breezy, warm in the morning and a bit cooler in the late afternoon.
Sunday June 30: time to go back to Birchwood. We had a great trip home. A few stops for walking, eating and grocery shopping.
Bad News: both of our cranes (Poppy and Momma) have come to eat corn without any colts. They gave it a good try but none of the babies made it... we have had colts every year for the past 8 years. Assuming they will hang around all summer but really no need to as they don't have anyone to raise.
