Well this summer is beginning to be the summer that was not warm or dry. cool wet weather started our month. We did go to the Tree Farm on Tuesday, misty and cloudy day. It looked good, blueberries are not ripe yet.
Happy 4th of July. Of course calling for rain, hopefully it holds off until after our Mud Lake gathering at Rick and Rita's this afternoon. Well we had a great turn out. and the rain held off!
Saturday July 6: we picked up Rita and Rick for a ride on the pontoon to listen to the band, Rewind Society, at the Band on the Bay. Lots of boats were there enjoying the music.
I started to feel a bit under the weather on Tuesday by Sunday it was a full blown cold/virus. It's been years since I caught anything. UGH....
Tuesday June 9: Cousin Rose Williamson took an adventure up to see us! She left home with her suitcase in hand, took the metro to the Union Station in Chicago, train to Milwaukee, Bus to Eau Claire where we picked her up. A stop in Rice Lake for dinner and home for good nights sleep. A Very long day for Rose, we are thankful she made the trip, it's been a long time since she was here.
Wednesday we took a 4 hour ride around the lake by car. its 25 miles, obviously we stopped a few times to look at new places, eat lunch and stop for a cocktail at Long Lakes Smallest Bar!
Thursday we headed into Hayward to drop a bit of shopping before going to cousin Lindas place. Off to lunch at Trails End. Lindas grandson Jackson and wife Skylar joined us for lunch. A stop at the casino, a quick nap and a float around Mud Lake ended the day.
Friday: Eric went with friends Kayaking while Rose and I took the pontoon out for a ride.
Meanwhile Rose and I made A Quick stop at Fernwood Bar
Then to Mary's Bluegill bar in Birchwood for a wonderful Perch dinner.
Saturday: Rain came early until around noon. good day to hang around the house. the rain stopped in time for a fun fire..
Sunday: we shelled a few peas, enjoyed a short pontoon ride on Mud Lake and hung out.
Monday July 15: time for Rose to go home.
What a fun week we had just hanging and catching up.
Eric went to the Tree Farm on Wednesday and picked a bowl of wild blueberries, which we had on Thursday in our pancakes! Oh so good...
Our domestic Blueberries and Raspberries are producing so much fruit. We are able to harvest a med bowl of blueberries every other day. the tomatoes are slowly growing and beginning to produce.

Thurs July 25, we headed to St Paul for Todd's mothers wake and funeral. She passed away unexpectedly 2 weeks ago. It's always good to see family and friends but not at funerals.... Hanna got engaged last week! so good news for the Gustafson's. we took a ride around the 3M complex. lot of the buildings are closed. and Solventum (Eric's new company) has taken over his old building.
After the wake we walked from our hotel to Southern Social restaurant. The service and food was pretty good and we could sit outside!
Friday: the service was today, right afterwards we headed back home.
Sunday we enjoyed a fun game of golf at Tagalong with the Nine and Dine group. Eric tried out his new driver and I got to try out my new waterproof golf shoes! (we picked them up in Woodbury on Thursday).
Monday July 29: off to Milwaukee this morning. Our first night is in Marshfield (about 150 miles). We stopped a few times including getting lunch at Kwik Trip! good chicken sandwich and tenders. Our first time getting food from there.
We stopped at the local zoo for a quick walk. The last time we were here the Kodiak Bear exhibit was under construction. Today the bears were out and playing in the water. They sure are BIG!
Arrived to our hotel by 2:00 pm. Dinner at the Lumberjack, pretty good food, great service and close! A stop at Nutz Deep 11 for a beer and to check it out. Both restaurants were jamb packed and everyone was eating.
Tuesday we head to Milwaukee! it was a bit slow as we kept running into construction. We did find a few places to walk. We finally arrived in Milwaukee at about 2:30. our hotel does not have registration until 4. We headed east for about 1.5 miles to Lake Michigan. The county parks have a beer garden, yes a beer garden but they don't open until 4 pm... who does that???
Our hotel for the next 3 nights is the Brewhouse Inn and Suites. It was the Pabst Brewing Company, the building's are now condos, hotel, restaurant, craft brewery etc.. they really fixed up the area.
We walked to the river (about a half mile) for dinner at the Tavern on 3rd. food was ok. Eric had to get night shots of the hotel
The 6 pack did not come with the room!
Wednesday July 31: We headed west to Kettle Moraine ski/hiking area. Then went to a park by the lake looking for Eastern Screech Owls, as people have been seeing at least 5 at a time. Well we did not see any! We looked and looked to no avail.
after a nap and shower we went for dinner, we stopped at the Old German Beer Hall for a drink. Fun bartenders, kind of a small place, lots of stuff to look at, including a stuffed goat and the wall of fame for the Stein Club.
Then down the street to Mader German Restaurant. The dinners were way too big so we opted for appetizers. Ruben egg roll that was really really good and Spatzel that was also very good.
We made a stop at Central Brewing, the Original is in Amherst near Plover WI.
