Sept 1: Our neighbor John and Karen had a party at their new event center. Lots of good food, music and neighbors.
Great way to begin the month!
Wednesday was our final day of golf. beautiful day to play a round, hang with friends that I won't see until next May.
Friday Sept 6: off to Woodbury to check into our hotel for the night. Then off to Sumerset Wi for the Outlaw Musical Festival!
John Cougar Mellancamp (73) from Indiana sang most of his top hits, very loud and energetic
Bob Dylan (83) from Minnesota! most of his songs we did not know. he really banged out the keys on the piano and blew a mean harmonica.
and Finally Willie Nelson (91) from Texas! Sang all of his top hits and a few more. What a great performer.
They all showed their age, all sounded a bit rough but all in all they did a great performance, fun evening to see these icons.
Wed Sept 11: I went to Woodbury for the night to catch an early morning flight on Thursday to Columbia SC to meet up with the Argo High School girls. The drive was pretty uneventful. Made a stop at Joel Marsh for a quick walk before arriving at the Hampton Inn in Woodbury. Went next door to the Southern Social Restaurant for Shrimp and Grits! not sure if I will get any in SC!!
up early on Thursday to catch my 8:50 flight to Atlanta... my journey to Columbia SC was pretty uneventful. It took about 10 minutes to get from the parking shuttle, check in and through security! A bit of a few bumps because of the hurricane in Louisiana. I arrived at 2:00 pm. Roxy on the other hand came in from Dallas. Her flight was moving away from the gate when the plane came to a full stop. Oh Oh, some light came on, needless to say they arrived 2 hours late at 6:00 pm. I went walking and shopping for beverages while waiting for her. We arrived at Anne's house in Lexington SC at 7:30. The girls had all gone out for dinner, which gave us time to bring our bags etc and get settled in.
Oh it was so good to see the girls again. We started off where we left off last year! Bob, (Anne's husband) fell a few weeks ago breaking his hip. He is ok but needing a lot of help and Physical Therapy.
Friday Sept 13: Bonnie and I walked the neighborhood before going out for a walk in Lexington, soccer field and Old Mill pond. the other girls went shopping in Columbia. We met for a very nice lunch at Old Mill Brewpub. a quick nap then to the pool. the weather has been overcast but warm with short sprinkles.
Saturday Sept 14: a misty morning for walking, I went to the soccer fields alone. Walked about 2 miles, the rain completely stopped for a about an hour of my walk, rain is a bit of an overstatement, more heavy mist... the sun came out in the afternoon, good time to take a walk with Debbie at the Old Mill Pond then hit the pool. Betty made delicious enchilada burritos for dinner. a bit spicy but very good.
Sunday: so far no one has taken any pictures! maybe we will get some today... I walked the neighborhood before breakfast. Bonnie and I found a new park to walk and a park we had visited in the past. The sun came out for quite awhile but a bit windy.
Roxy brought us T-shirts: our high school colors, we are all 71 this year and we graduated in 71!

Dinner was fabulous, all of our food was perfect. Corky purchased cannoli's to go..
After dinner, Corky surprised us with foot treatments. They were booties filled with a delightfully smoothing lotion. We had planned on doing it outside but... the weather turned a bit chilly. It was a fun event.
Tuesday Sept 17: Corky left by 9:30 to go home to Cleveland. Roxy, Bonnie and I went to Saluda Shoals Park for a wonderful walk, then to Liberty Tavern and Bar on Lake Murray for a great lunch. I had the shrimp and grits, it was good. The views were fabulous from our table. By the time we got back to Anne's, Izzy had taken Debbie and Betty to the airport for their journey home to Chicago.
Wednesday Sept 18: a very early morning as Roxy had a 6:45am Flight to Dallas. I took her then stayed in Columbia, hiking, shopping and eating! A bit of rain tried to derail my walk, but I kept on moving... I was able to check into the Hampton Inn at 1:30. took a much needed nap!!!
I hung around the area going to some of my favorite places to walk. pretty low key on Thursday. Friday I got up at 4:00 am for my 6:00 am flight home! Everything was on time, I finally arrived home at 2:20 pm. long day but so happy to be home!
Eric got up early to find the Northern Lights! finally... we have been trying all summer to catch the lights.
Wednesday Sept 25: before we headed home we went back to Hawk Ridge without much luck. the wind was not blowing from the north, no clouds in the sky make for a not good hawk watch... We had a good time but unfortunately not too many birds.
Thurs Sept 12: Guys weekend begins. Eric worked to get all the beds, games, chairs, food, and firewood ready for the weekend. last year there was an issue with the apples...
Steve and Rick arrived on Thursday afternoon. Friday: Gibby, Pogo, Keith, Lee, Scott and Dave Anderson all showed up before dark.
Saturday: Work day! then to the pontoon. and a few fireworks Gibby left early on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday: some of the guys left early on Sunday, the others were gone by 1:00pm. Great fun weekend with friends.
Monday Sept 23: off to Duluth MN to Hawk Ridge etc.. We are staying in Superior Wi at the Hampton Inn for 2 nights. We made our usual stops on the way to Superior. Not too much to talk about. Birds were scarce. After a quick nap we went to The Thirsty Pagan for a delicious pizza. the building is an old train depot, so cute and freight trains still go right next to it!
Tuesday Sept 24: beautiful sunny warm day to go to Duluth. We began at Stoney Point then off to Hawk Ridge, then to Hartley park and finally Park Point. The wind was out of the south, so the birds were not flying.... we got the fewest birds ever in the Duluth area. Although it was a wonderful day walking around one of our favorite cities... A stop at Earth Rider where some guys were playing Kube then to the Anchor Bar for a wonderful hamburger and fresh fries. we have not been to the Anchor Bar in about 10 years!
Thursday Sept 26: time to end the summer of 2024. Pulled the pontoon out of the water.
Friday Sept 27: got our flu and covid vaccinations today. we like to get them before we leave here.
Sat Sept 28: met up with Rita and Rick at Summers on Long to listen to a great 2 person band and a bite to eat. the weather is phenomenal this week. 80 deg, sunny little wind...
We end the month on a high note... 80 deg, sunny, light wind... great for getting the property ready for winter and to enjoy our time outdoors. Quite a busy month but lucky to have such good friends to spend our time with catching up, sharing stories, reminiscing and laughing. and we were able to get 9 more year birds!!!
