Old and new friends gathering at Big Cypress

Thurs Dec 8:  What a fun day, we had visitors!  Judy and Hermy Hermanson from Wisconsin are hosting at Bear Island Campground on the Preserve.  We volunteered with them at Santa Ana in South Texas in 2012-13. They both looked great, it was fun catching up.  We hope to meet up a few more times while we are all here.

Fri:  our first dinner at the campfire was hot dogs!  Gwen made a delicious potato salad, and Peg made a southwest chopped salad to go with our dogs.

we brought homemade apple sauce, ketchup, horseradish pickles and hot peppers

the guys cooking over an open fire.

Sat: this is the biggest grasshopper we have ever seen.  (assuming it is a grasshopper)

the swamps are not as wet as last year, we are seeing a lot more egrets etc on the preserve this year.

Sun: a bit of rain makes a beautiful rainbow!

Mon: very hot and very very humid but we took our bikes to Shark Valley for a 15 mile ride.  It was a beautiful ride with lots and lots of alligators laying in the sun.

Tues: all day mandatory meeting for the volunteers!  then we head for Naples for two nights.
