Looking for Bats!

Feb 8, Oh we got a new toy!  Ordered it online from Canada.  Its about 4" long, compact enough to fit in a pocket and very easy to use. It works by ultrasonic sound, it emits bat echolocation calls during flight and feeding.  We put a bat house up a few years ago but have not seen but a few last summer.  Hoping this will let us know if the bats are back in Wis.

It took 11 days to get here.  It was a chilly night but we walked over to the State Park at about 6:00.  We actually found a few owls before it got dark, 3 different kind, Barn Owl, Great Horned Owl and the Eastern Screech Owl.  Heard a few night jars, Common Pauraque and a Lesser Nighthawk after dark.  It seemed to take a while but we did hear a few bats on the Batseeker.

We will try again when the weather warms up a bit.Ultrasonic Bat Detector
