Heading Home; Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota!

March 4: Saying goodbye to Texas after 4 months of enjoying all it has to offer is a bit sad. We left Ray Roberts SP at 8:15 for our journey to Blackwell OK.  265 miles with south winds gave us a pretty good MPG.  We arrived at ABC RV park at about 1:30.  It is a private RV Park just off of I35. It was nice, pretty much a parking lot with FHU.  We did find a park or two to walk around, a casino to spend a bit of money and a pizza dinner.  So not a bad stop.

March 5: The wind blew really hard last night, the RV moved a bit from the wind!  We went out to a little local place for breakfast before heading out. The wind was really blowing all the way to Clinton State Park in Lawrence KS, about 235 miles.  Luckily we were on the I35 toll way in Kansas.  They have rest areas every 35 miles.  We took advantage of each one of them.  We left at 8:00 am arriving at the park at 1:00 pm.  Although the wind was relentless the stops made the trip not too bad.  After we set up we went for a 4 mile hike.  The wind was still blowing but we were sheltered by the trees.

Since the winds are expected to be worse tomorrow (today the wind was out of the NW at 33 mph).  And the fact that MN and WI are expecting a snow storm today and tomorrow we decided to stay here in Kansas for two nights.

Mar 6: Boy is it windy and cold out.  The temp in the morning was about 45 but by 9:00 am it dropped to 36 and the wind was howling even harder.  We decided to try going for walk at

which is about 8 miles from our campsite.  It was a nice place except it was all open fields and ponds and the wind was pushing us around.  We did find a sheltered area with trees that had a nice path.  It was about a mile or so long.  On our way back through the wooded area, a tree branch snapped and began to fall.  We jumped out of the way and somehow my glasses fell off.  We searched and searched but did not find them.  Luckily I have an older prescription back up pair in the RV.

Eric winterized the RV.  the first time he has had to do this RV.  The wind seemed like it was getting stronger and stronger as the afternoon wore on.  We headed out to have a late lunch/earl dinner at 23rd Street Brewery.  Great food, beer and Happy Hour.  The wind continued to blow until well after 10 pm.

Mar 7:  cold morning (27) and still a little windy, not as bad as yesterday but gusts are still in the 25 mph range, better than 45-50 mph like yesterday.  Today we head to West Des Moines, Walnut Woods SP.  This is the same route we took in 2015, so we know the parks and area.

Yes this is snow!! it was snowing for the last 30 minutes of our journey and when we arrived at the park.

Our journey is pretty uneventful, not much traffic on our 235 mile trip.  We were able to make a few stops at rest areas to break up the trip.  Once we set up we headed to town to fill up the propane tank. We are heading into cold weather, tonight is forecasted to be 20 deg!  Tomorrow we head to Dakotha Meadows RV park in Shakopee MN.

March 8 2018 our final night on the road for this season!  We end were we began on Oct 23rd.  It is good to be back in Minnesota. Temp this am 19!  our heaters worked fine all night keeping us toasty warm.  tonight it is suppose to get to 10!  am assuming our heaters will work overtime.  Today's journey was 248 miles, most of them on I35.

A visit to Badger Hill Brewery and the casino ended our 4 month trip!   We were able to see 20 new life birds on this journey.  We probably missed another 20, maybe next year?

March 9, 2019: todays journey is about 150 miles.  Sunny, calm winds and clean roads forecasted for our trip.
