SAX-ZIM Bog

Monday March 12, 2018: We headed to Duluth this morning to spend a few days looking for Owls and other winter birds.  We made a stop or two in Wisconsin before getting into Minnesota.  We did find a Snowy Owl at the airport in Superior.

#48

We also found some Pine Grosbeaks

Lake Superior is still frozen, at least on the Wisconsin shore line

We stayed in Duluth near the mall. We got up early on Tues to look for Great Gray Owls and a few others, nee to be at the bog (about 45 minutes away) by 7 am or earlier.  The temp was 6 deg by the time we got there.  We did not see any Owls...

Went looking for the American Three Toed and Black Backed Woodpeckers.  they have been a nemesis for a while now.  We got them both!

We did not find any Owls on Wednesday either!  But we found some Bohemian Waxwings

Although a lot of the lake was open the ice breaker had to do some work

finally home again, we need a  hot sauna...
