Snowy and cold March

Its been cold and snowy since we arrived home.  The sap did not flow freely, but we did have 3 days (not together) of good temps and some flow.   For two weeks we kept an eye on our buckets but not too much sap as the weather was a bit too cold at night (13) and not warm enough during the day (35).  We really would like to see 24-40 for temps.  We still have a lot of snow on the ground, about 18inches and the lake is still frozen over.

Since we are not spending too much time at the fire pit, we are able to get odd jobs completed in the house and taking care of vehicle maintenance.

These temps are good for taking a hot sauna

Our winter puzzle after two weeks!

Our friends made it through the winter!! (and Hunting season)

Dressed for our morning walks.  I weighed in after I got dressed for our walk, after we returned I removed all of my walking clothes and weighed in again..  18 pounds of clothes!!  no wonder I am so tired when we get back from our walks!

We are here to make syrup, only 3 days of flow in March!  Hope April gives us a few more days.

While waiting for the sap to evaporate we cooked a 1015 onion over the coals!

As much as I complain about the weather, it sure is worth the suffering for this sweet treat!

We got about 4 inches of snow on March 26th

then we got another 10 inches of snow on March 31st! When will this madness end???  We attempted to take a walk but the snow was way too deep and the main road was not plowed.

Not too bad on our bird count considering the weather has been so cold.  We got two new life birds making our number at 595, increased our yearly count by 41 to 272 and ended the month at 127.
