Monday Feb 26: we left Choke Canyon at about 9:00 am after a nice walk around our park. We had a pretty uneventful 190 miles trip to Inks Lake State Park north of Austin.
Very nice park, the reason we left Mission early was so we could stay here for a few days. We will be here for 4 nights. This park is all booked up on the weekends. We arrived at 1:00, got all set up and went for a wonderful hike. Nice fire ended the day.
Waterfall on our walk
Our path came to this part of the river. There are large boulders on the bottom of this picture that we were deliberating on how to cross without falling into the water. After comteplating our next move for about 30 seconds we came across a novel idea. Cross the water by walking across the bridge!! (top of picture). Sometimes you have to wonder how we survived this far!!
Tues Feb 27: Today was a very foggy, misty, overcast day. We headed out to
Although it was raining and overcast we walked about 4 miles. Nice hiking area.
I was able to walk across this boulder bridge without incident!
The afternoon turned out to be sunny and warm. We really enjoy this State Park, lots of hiking and a huge lake. It has been pretty quiet although pretty crowded. We suspect the weekends are a bit noisier.
Feb 28: We went to Berry Springs Park in Georgetown. We had been there before, great walking and a few birds. We stopped for brisket, take out for dinner.
We had been here in the past, the brisket is really good. We had a wonderful time around the fire for the afternoon and early evening.
Feb Bird count: we are up 3 birds to 593 for our life birds. The year count is up 49 birds to 231 and this is our biggest month at 203!
March 1: We went to
nice hiking trails
a bit cooler than yesterday
Inks Dam
the fishery ponds
this cannon blew off every 10 minutes or so to keep the cormorants and pelicans from eating all of the fish.
We went back to hike our park one last time. Tomorrow we head to Ray Roberts SP in Denton, about 270 miles away.
Friday March 2: today's journey was pretty long. We left Inks Lake SP at 7:45 drove 265 miles to
Ray Roberts SP, Isle du Bois, arriving at 1:00.
I 35 was under construction for about 25 miles near Waco. Our site #49 is a pull through with 50 amp and water but not very level, in fact we could not get the RV level at all. We are here only two nights so no big deal. Nice park, pretty big, with concrete walking paths. Dinner at the campfire, hot dogs and beans!
Sat March 3: great day for walking and birding. We went to
for a nice walk, the path was a bit wet but nice just the same.
found a shelter
Afterwards we headed for lunch at Prairie House Restaurant in Aubrey TX. Good Catfish, fried and grilled. Then to Pilot Point to Whistle Stop Brewery for a pint of Coconut Lime Ale for me and a flight for Eric. They were all good. Right next door is a Distillery, we went in but did not try any Vodka, Gin or Whiskey, maybe next time.
Tomorrow March 4 we head to Oklahoma!
