our feathered friends visited every day....
Our baby colt, Sandhill Crane is getting big
this guy would come knocking at the walk out sliding glass doors! Not sure if he wanted to come in or to let Eric know he needed more corn!
Eric, Steve Goodwin and Scott Johnson went kayaking the first Monday in August. Beautiful day to float down the river.
For Kathy's Big Birthday Celebration we headed North to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. We made many stops along the way up there to hike and sight see.
We stayed at the Lodge for 4 wonderful nights
We had a very nice cabin
they delivered appetizers and wine every evening at 5:00. Our food at the lodge was included and it was all so very good. Great chef's and great menu's.
We had access to a motor boat, canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards. A pontoon could be rented too.

We did plenty of hiking and birding

We had a great time Up North. Peaceful, Serene, Tranquil etc... everything you would imagine what the top of the US would be like. The Lodge is so remote that there was no TV or Internet. It was nice being "off the grid" for a few days.
When we returned home our little colt has grown so much!
We were able to spend a day with cousin Linda and family on their lake. it was such a delightful day of talking, eating, drinking and fishing! We love spending time with them.
the End of August means its time to go to the
Minnesota State Fair:
We stayed downtown St Paul at the DoubleTree so that we could take public transportation to the fair. Eric liked the bike but the fair is a bit too far to go by bike.

We met up with Roberta and John Gaskill for the Monday night Concert. The Rightous Brothers and
the Beach Boys! both bands were so good. What a fun night.
After 3 days of eating and walking and listening to music it was time to go home. Roberta and John came back with us for a few days before heading back to Illinois.
Eric put this raccoon skin on the HoneyCrisp Apple tree fence to warn the raccoons that this is their fate if they eat any apples!
We enjoyed our morning walks, playing games, working on the puzzle, cooking and talking for 2 days. Its such a beautiful time of the year but it also means winter is coming.
bird count for August: we were given one new bird, Mexican Mallard so our life time is up to 611. Our year count came in at 395 and our month was a record 113!
