August 2022

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer...  We managed to get all of our big chores done early in Spring.  Now is the time to hang loose and enjoy the hot and humid days of summer.

Walleye bites!

Poppy the Sandhill crane was looking for corn.  When Eric brought some, he was so grateful he did a little dance!

Mom and baby crane were waiting in the trees for Eric to leave before coming out for dinner.

Aug 5: Beautiful day for a Birthday, sunny and warm, light breeze,  a trip to Jack Pine Savage Days in Spooner started our day.  Of course we had detours to get there!  Our Gov is doing a great job fixing our roads but Every trip we make there is a least one detour!  After lunch in Spooner we went home to celebrate with a Birthday Longjohn!  and Yes is was as good as it looks.

Ready for a Birthday outing....  we went back to The Bear Paw for Shrimp Ceviche.  It was good

A great day to celebrate

Aug 11: off to see Jenny today, Ray flew in last night, we will meet him at the care center then go for dinner at Mallards in Bloomington.   We had a great trip down to The Cities.  many stops and hikes.  Ray was there when we arrived.  And a wonderful surprise, Lori and Holly showed up!  Have not seen them in about a year, shortly after Todd showed up. A bit of a crowded room but we all found a place to sit and was able to chat for awhile.   After our visit with Jenny we (Ray, Eric and I) went to Mallards in Bloomington for dinner.    We all left for home on a rainy Friday morning...

We have lots of Butterflies

Aug 18: the Poppa crane dances most days but today... No dance for Eric

Aug 20: 100 days of making my 12000 step goal!  I was happy when I made 25, surprised when I made 50 days, excited when I made 75 days but knew I would be able to make 100 days in a row.

Eric was with Steve and Scott up at Scott's place in Hayward for a kayaking day trip on the Chippewa River.  the weather was perfect, not too hot, not too sunny and not too windy.

Friday night campfire at Scotts

A bit of white water and boulders on the Chip

The neighbors came by for a campfire and a few stories on Saturday night.  Great night for a fire, its always fun to gather with to listen to their stories.

Momma Turkey finally brought her babies into the yard for some corn

too cute!

Monday Aug 22:  Less than 2 months before we leave for the winter!  today we went golfing with Jackie and John Klien at Lynndale.  Jackie had the best score, I had the highest!

Lots of rain this month means more mowing, we usually have to water the grass from getting too dry and crispy but not this year.  Our garden does not drain well, and too much water is not a good thing for the garden.  Hopefully our plants hang in there..

We have been harvesting our tomatoes and black beans..  3 lbs of black beans and our largest yellow tomato came in at 1 lb

I did can some fresh pasta sauce once the dew point and humidity went down to below heavy wet air...

Kind of a lazy month, chores will pick up in Sept
