We begin the month with wonderful weather. We spent the day working on cleaning out the pole barn and getting it ready for the garage sale.
Rita and Rick picked us up on Sunday for a fun afternoon. We went to the Hideout. Al Capones place in Couderay. Entrance was free with a donation requested. the house was beautifully restored. The grounds were very relaxing on a small lake. most of the buildings are in need of repair.
We then went to Johnny B's on Blueberry Lake for a wonderful lunch. Mostly Chicago style sandwiches and pizzas. I don't know why we did not know about this place before!
Mon Aug 3: Lori and Steve Goodwin came today for a fun few days of enjoying each other's company. Car problems made them a few hours later than planned but they got here by 2:00. We had a nice chat then took the pontoon out on Mud Lake for a booze cruise. It was so relaxing and filling as we brought a lot of snacks. Came back up to grill burgers for dinner. what a wonderful afternoon/evening. just catching up and enjoying each other's company.
Tuesday August 4: After a nice morning walk we headed down to the pontoon. The motor would not turn over! What the heck. that has never happened. So we ended up hanging on the pontoon for the afternoon. The weather was perfect, we just hung talking, eating and drinking with lots of laughs.
Dinner at Mary's Bluegill bar in Birchwood. Taco Tuesday was jammed packed and very good.
Wednesday August 5: Happy 73rd birthday to me! holy cow.. how in the world did that happen. Lori and Steve left by 10:00 am. We had such a great time visiting with them. A beautiful day to hang around and do nothing!
Thursday we had dinner with Rita and Rick at Lincolnwood. another great day to celebrate being alive!
Friday August 7: Good day for Jack Pine Savage Days in Spooner. We scored a bunch of books, a jacket for Eric and a delicious jelly donut! Simple but oh so fun and good.
Saturday we spent most of the day getting read for the garage sale. The pole barn is coming along. We want to Haugen for their summer fest, good band and a few beers was all we needed.
Tuesday August 11: I went for my hearing test. Been having a bit of an issue with hearing and needed to get tested. Well I did pretty good considering. She suggested that I did not need to get aids unless I really wanted to. Not quite ready was her exact words. We spent the rest of our time in Rice Lake shopping, did not get home until after 1:00! long morning. but we got a lot done. Dinner at Mary's with Pam and Terry.
Wednesday: another beautiful day in the Northwoods. Terry came by to look at the pontoon motor, they did get it running so Eric drove it to Dave's Marina on Long Lake to leave it there for repairs.
Rita and Rick invited us over for entertainment, music and dinner!
Friday August 14: off to Eau Claire to catch a flight to ORD this afternoon. the drive and flight to ORD was pretty uneventful. Flight was 53 minutes, we drove the tarmac at ORD for 19 minutes after we landed to get to the gate! not sure if we were taking the scenic
Tuesday Aug 18: took Corky to the airport then Jean and I walked the Timmerman trail. Not too much happening in the afternoon. Roxy and I spent a few hours in the pool then Jean, Roxy and I went to the Fireflies baseball game. It was a double headed so the first was was to be 7 innings beginning at 5:30. The crowd was pretty small until about 6:30 when more people showed up. We lost to the Augusta Green Coats in 8 innings 5-3. It was really fun, $2 hot dogs were good, beer and other drinks were a bit expensive. parking was $3. Fun evening with the girls.
then back for a brief nap. Pool time, Everyone got in, even Bob and Anne!!!
Thursday August 20: our time has come for Roxy and I to leave. But first Jean and I went for a walk at a couple of local places. After a quick shower and a sad farewell Roxy and I headed to Columbia for a wonderful lunch at Kingsman Restaurant. I dropped off Rox at about 1:00 then went back to the Timmeman trail for a quiet walk.
got to the airport and through security by 4:00 for a 5:30 flight to ORD. My flights from Columbia to O'Hare to Eau Clare was uneventful. Got to the hotel by 11:30 pm. Oh yes very tired old girl here.
Friday I woke up at 5:30, still a bit tired, so a slow wake up.. After breakfast I headed to Rice Lake to drop off the Buick for repairs. Eric met me at the dealership then off for a walk, shopping and lunch at home.
It's always fun to visit with the girls but they sure do wear me out. too much food, drink, talking and not enough resting! looking forward to next years gathering.
Monday: almost back to normal.. It takes a few days to get rested up and clear the mind. Need to work on 401K stuff, cable and electric and of course the garage sale stuff.
Tuesday August 25: the pontoon is finally ready to be picked up.. Not sure what took so long to order spark plugs and install them... It seems to be working just fine. We have not had rain in a few weeks. But luckily Eric covered the pontoon and we did get a bit of rain. It's so dry and not too much rain in the forecast.
Wed: fun lunch at Stone Lake Pub with Rita and Rick. Window replacements finally came in and got installed. More work on the garage sale and packing... All the deer, turkeys and cranes are showing up a few times a day for corn. Everyone is getting ready for winter! trees are changing colors, its been a bit cool and the sun is shortening its day here in the Northewoods.
Thurs: off to Stone Lake for some music. We stopped at Eagles Corner for a beer before settling in at the Red Schoolhouse Wines for some great music and food.
Good flatbread
hmm.. they erased our heart from the last time we were here.. so I used their heart!
Friday August 29: where has this month gone?? We did enjoy a nice float on Mud lake. Pam and Terry hooked their pontoon to ours for a few hours. Nice afternoon catching up with friends on the lake.
first food of the fair was a Foot Long Hot Dog! also had Duck Wontons, French Fries, Cheese Curds, Chocolate Chip cookies, 3 new beers!
We left the fair at about 3:30. caught our bus and drove to the hotel in Bloomington, arriving at about 4:30.
for a snack (tacos) and 4 new beers! Great time at the fair. Did not see any one we knew! It began to get a bit crowded by late in the afternoon. The clouds kept it cool until about 1:30 then the sun came out and warmed us up. We really do miss the fair...
