Sat March 19, 2016: The forecast was for rain all weekend. It rained a little in the morning but we managed to get out for a hike.
We have passed this place for almost 3 months now but never stopped! It is about a 2 mile round trip walk beginning on asphalt to the observation tower then gravel. Beautiful walk except for the deer flies!
Eric is very good at finding snakes..
Of course the alligators were out in full force
This Osprey was bathing near the Great Egret
We finally made it to
again this place is just down the road and we have not stopped. The food was very good, catfish and of course fried shrimp.
We went to one of the guests camp for cocktails and stories.. Steve and Susan were in South Texas at a State Park when we were down there a few years ago. We have mutual friends and they too are birders! fun evening until the mosquitos came out!
Sunday: of course we had morning rain..It stopped by 9 am, so we headed into Miami for one last time. No luck with birding but found a wonderful restaurant for lunch.
Back at camp, met a guy whose Grandfather had owned Birchwood Resort! did not ask the name as I would not know it. small world.
Monday: off to Naples to meet with a former co-worker at 3M Bedford Park, Il. On the way we made a quick stop for a walk on this cool windy day. Cool front came in last night, high temps in the mid 60's and very windy!
Who Cooks For You?? The Barred Owl!
We are always looking for owls but rarely see one.
Well my camera was in our truck and we took Jim's car to lunch! so no pictures. We had a wonderful lunch at Mel's Diner. Not sure if it was the same Mel's Diner that was on TV long ago, but it was cute and the food was good. We took a ride to downtown Naples before saying goodbye until next year!
Tomorrow we begin our final four days of work... where has the time gone!
