Happy New Year 2018

We woke up to very cold (for south Texas) temperatures, 37 with winds.  We did bundle up with flannel lined jeans and long johns, two hats and two pairs of gloves, two jackets and one scarf.  It was a good walk although the wind was biting our faces.

We had a wonderful New Years Day dinner at Saltgrass in McAllen.  Our steaks were perfect, a great way to begin the new year.

Eric got a bug on Jan 2.  The weather was very cold windy with some rain for the first couple of days of the year.

The sun came out after hiding for 9 days!  My first picture of the year is not a bird or food but a coyote.

Eric is still a little under the weather but we did go to Quinta Matzalan to find the Blue Bunting, a rare bird from Mexico.

Saturday Jan 6: we picked up Kim and Fred G. then headed to Santa Ana WLR to take the tram ride.  It was a great tour with lots of information.

Lunch was at Pancho Nuevo in McAllen.  Our food was all good with great service.  Of course too much food, so we brought some home.

Jan 7, 2018  we spent the morning at Estero Llano Grande State Park. We finally got our 100th bird of the year!  We were planning on getting 100 birds on Jan 1 but the weather did not allow it.

2 Common Pauraques trying to hide from us...

A young Clay Colored Thrush, hope he makes it..

This insect was on the truck, not sure what it is

So glad the weather has turned back to "normal".
