Our trip to Waco was about 160 miles today. A bit of traffic and construction but all in all a good journey. We landed at North Crest RV park in Northwest Waco. After setting up we headed into Waco to the Cameron Park. Our park is about 7 miles from downtown Waco.
We parked at the Zoo then went for a 3.5 mile hike through the park.

After our long hot humid walk we found a brewery!
After a nice lager we went to Crickets for a great burger and taco.. Rain is due here tonight with cold temps.. today it was 80 tomorrow is suppose to maybe see 56!
Friday: rained all night with some thunder. We went for Kolaches about 10 miles north on I35 this morning.
Cousin Pat and Allison recommend this place in West Tx right off of I 35. We ended getting 6 different Kolaches. Fresh and Fabulous!
We had intended on going for a walk but the weather was 44, cloudy and very windy. So we went back to the RV, ate a Kolache then did some laundry! We left about 10:30 when the temp rose to a balmy 47 to go to a park on Lake Waco. It was a bit chilly by the water but not too bad. Right next door to the park is the Carleen Bright Arboretum, good place for a short walk. Nice little gardens and some fun scarecrows. We finished our trip with a visit to HEB. Our favorite grocery store. We are back in Texas!
Saturday Oct 26: although a bit cool this am and windy we went to the Waco Wetlands for a walk. It was about a 3 mile walk, with few birds and NO wetlands. It was dry... We then found a few other places to walk before heading home. The day turned out to be beautiful, 75 sunny.
Sunday Oct 27: off to San Antonio, our 195 mile journey was pretty uneventful. We did not run into too much traffic except around Austin. We prefer traveling on Sunday morning as there is not too much traffic or construction. We arrived at Green Lake RV resort at about noon. Its a nice place with a small lake in the middle of the resort. There are quite a few permanent residents. Nice showers, pool, hot tub, rec hall with free popcorn and an exercise room.
We set up then went to a local park for a walk, it was pretty expensive $8 per person to get into the park! It was a nice park on a lake. Dinner was at a local Mexican restaurant. The food was fabulous and cheap.. My carnitas are rated a 10! Eric's chicken dinner was a 7. Our weather was a perfect 82 and sunny! finally great weather...
Mon Oct 28: We were able to keep the windows open all night. It was suppose to be hot and sunny today, but the morning began cool and cloudy which was ok for our 5 mile walk at Saluda Greenway. After our walk was complete, Eric had a bug that needed to get out.... We went back to the RV for a rest and nap. We spent the afternoon walking around the Riverwalk in San Antonio. It was not too crowded and still not sunny. By the time we arrived back at the park, the sun was out, time to sit by the pool for more relaxing time...
Great way to end our day.. eating Dots, reading a good book and sunshine..

Tues: A bit cooler temps today. It began to rain at 5:20 am and continued until about 1 pm. We went to Mitchell Audubon for a walk, it rained off and on for the 3 hours we were there. Needless to say we got soaking wet! We don't mind walking while its misting out or even a little light rain but we had downpours where we tried to hide under trees but they did not protect us. Went back to the park, put our PJ's on and the heat... good time for a nap..
We were able to make an appointment for Monday Nov 4 to get our water heater repaired. We sent them the model number etc so hopefully they can bring the correct parts and get it fixed fast..
We went to Tom's Burger right near our park. It is a advertised as a Truck Stop right on I37. The place was pretty crowded with locals. Our burgers were fantastic. The fries ok, and they throw in an apple pie!
Oct 30 heading to Lake Corpus Christi State Park for 2 nights. Being that it is about a 100 mile journey we don't need to hurry in the morning. It was a bit cool and misty when we left, cloudy with some rain as we drove and cloudy, windy and cool when we arrived..
We were able to set up and go for a walk before the rains came. Dinner at Smolik's Smokehouse in Mathis. It was fabulous! The pork ribs were tender and very tasty, the brisket was moist and smoked to perfection and the chicken was great too. The pinto beans were the best I have had in a long time, the green beans were good as was the cole slaw and the homemade onion rings.
The wind was blowing all night with rain early in the evening.
Happy Halloween! Wow we are already at the end of October. The cold front followed us all the way down here from Wisconsin. Snow hit the north, glad we were not there.
We went hiking in Corpus Christi, on Monday we were relaxing by the pool today was a bit different
long johns, two jackets, winter hat, gloves and boots... the wind was from the north and very cold especially since the temp was only about 42 deg. We had a good walk, went to another park where they were having a Hawk Watch. We hung with them for awhile, luckily the sun was out but the wind was relentless..
tomorrow Nov 1 we drive about 185 miles to our winter home, Laguna Atascosa Wild Life Refuge.
