On Tuesday we seen our 3 deer from last fall! Mom, Baby and Dot! so glad they made it through the winter. Assuming that Mom and Baby will have babies this year, will need to keep an eye on them when we get back in April.
It's been 5 days since we have watched TV, looking forward to seeing the news! But also very excited to go to Duluth and the festival. We have been occupying our time with outside stuff, reading, playing Yahtzee, saunas, doing a puzzle and of course looking at the birds. I haven't had time to dust yet, maybe next week. Eric has been skiing every day, he is getting his ski routine down and of course getting stronger.
Thursday February 12, 2015: we are off this morning for Duluth MN. The bog is about an hours drive north-west of Duluth. We will be staying in Duluth for the next 4 nights at the Hampton Inn on Canal Park. The temps are to be brutally cold this weekend, but we have plenty of clothes.
Our first stop was in Superior to look for the Snowy Owl:
Next to find the Common Eider, did not find it but we did find an Ice Project??
I believe the object is to make the largest ice sculpture in the world.. it was cool
went to another area where we found this crazy fox looking for dinner
he gave us quite a show. there was another fox but he took off when we got too close. this guy was very very hungry and did not seem to be bothered by us watching him.
We headed up to Two Harbors to find a few ducks, no luck! but did find
I believe this is our 4th sculpture out of 50! hoping to some day see all of Peter Toth's carvings.
still open water on Lake Superior
finally checked into the hotel. Got dressed up to go walk to the Timberlodge for dinner:
I still have to out on a jacket and two pairs of gloves.. it was pretty cold out! dinner was OK, I seem to remember them being a better restaurant, but the restaurants in Duluth (Canal Park) don't have to be real good, people come anyway!
Well tomorrow starts the fest.. hoping to get a few birds that are on our list.
