We got set up just before the rains began. Rain stopped for awhile so we could take a nice walk around the park. Pretty empty park, there are 3 other campers here. It looks like it was pretty crowded over the weekend. The sites are grass/gravel and kind of level. There are a lot of trees for shade, guessing it is nice place to hang in the summer.
The trees and bushes are budding. Not as much as in Nashville, but colorful and popping.
Monday: Still raining... we left around 8 am for Starved Rock State Park near Peru/LaSalle, Il. About 230 miles north. We drove through rain for about 100 miles, a light rain. When we left the temp was 55, when we arrived it was 44! definitely going the wrong way! Had to pull my flannel lined jeans back out of the closet.
The sun came out, took a walk around the park, the trees are not quite as flushed out as they were yesterday. The wind was a bit brutal on our walk. Looking forward to heating up the sauna when we get home... A few more campers here than yesterday. We had seen a lot of Wis and MN plates while we were driving. Everyone heading home for the summer.
Our propane tank finally ran out! It's been about 1 year since we began using that tank. We mostly use electric heat unless it is very cold then the propane will flip on.
Tues April 12: woke up to below freezing temps! 29!!!! Hopefully this is our final below freezing morning until this fall.. We have not been to this park for about 30 years! Although cold, no wind and sunny makes it a perfect day for a hike. We began our day by going into Ottawa for breakfast at The Brite Spot restaurant. The food was good, service quick and price not bad.
We headed to Allen Park in Ottawa to see our 8th Whispering Giant
then off to Starved Rock lodge and visitor center
its cold, about 40 but little wind. All we can say is WOW did not realize that Starved Rock was kind of like the Grand Canyon with the lodge, cabins, restaurant, visitor center and hiking trails. Well we knew about the hiking trails but today they are much nicer than the last time we were here.

There were quite a few people there considering it is a Tuesday in April. We did have a great walk/hike. So glad we stayed an extra day to see this side of the park. Maybe they will upgrade the campground next???
Dinner at the lodge, like we are back in Wis... Linnekugles beer, brandy old fashion, walleye and duck.. great dinner
Tomorrow we go about 230 miles to Oakdale, Wi just south of Tomah where the I divides (90-94),, getting closer to home.
