The Elegant Trogon!

Friday March 6, 2015

We headed to Patagonia State park for a morning bird walk.  Online it stated the start time at 9:00 am but... it began at 8:00 am.  we got there at 8:30 and hurried to catch up with the group!  We were almost done with the 3 hour walk when we finally found the elusive Elegant Trogon!  we have been looking for quite a while for this bird.  there is only one in the park!

He is fabulous!  and sat for quite awhile so we could all see him and take multiple pictures!

we ate our lunch at the park then headed back to Paton's yard, there we found the Violet Crowned Hummingbird!  no pics... but what a find!

we then headed to

to look for the Rufus Backed Robin... no such luck!  we looked and looked, it was a great hike but no luck..

back to Paton's yard for one more look and we were just getting ready to leave when we found the Lazuli Bunting!  3 birds in one day!!  What a day.  time to celebrate...

wonderful ribs

and a wonderful T-Bone!  great way to end a great day.  sunny, warm and 3 new birds!!!

  1. Great photos of the Elegant Trogan. We finally saw it the last time we were at Patagonia State Park. Really impressive bird. And you have a much longer list of birds you have seen than us.
