A few more days at FOY

We decided to stay here an extra 2 days to find some more birds and enjoy the resort.  We went out early today to the Wister wash area.  There were lots of duck hunters but we were able to see some birds and did get a new one today!  Also seen some more burrowing owls

we also found the mud volcanos 

A mud volcano is usually a small, very temporary structure.  Gases bubble up from underground deposits— from hydrocarbon traps or where carbon dioxide is being liberated in metamorphic reactions— into muddy places.

although the temp got to 80 deg I had to do laundry!  Chores just have to be done!

Thurs Jan 8: our Wildlife day:  we headed to the Anza-Borrego Desert State park to look for a few new birds. We did find a coyote on our way:

The top of the flagpole is at sea level.  We started our trip to the State Park at 200 feet below sea level, the park is at about 700 feet above sea level.. Our ears did pop on the way up.

Walked around a bit, did not see too much but did get two new birds, we will go anywhere to find them even:

it was a bit stinky but seen a few birds.  we also found gold flecks in the sand.  not sure if we could collect enough to make it worth our getting into trouble with the law!

Eric enjoyed the hot mineral spa, steam room and pool when we got back.  Nice day in the desert...

Friday Jan 8:  our last day at FOY... we took our morning walk, stopping at the flea market, the big draw is the hot dogs!

$2 for a very good hot dog!  did not buy anything else but met some very nice people.  We were going to go golfing but the Flintstone golf league was on the course, so we headed to the fitness center and then the pool!  We pretty much stayed at the pool from 10 until about 4.  Had lunch at the little restaurant.  This is the one and only pool that is warm enough (92 deg) that I can walk right into without making faces and freezing!  the hot tubs are about 105...

we really enjoyed our stay here at FOY, at half the price of ORPS and all the activities we like it a bit better than ORPS.  If we should ever come back out this way we would consider coming back for a month or more.   It does have gravel instead of asphalt, concrete or pavers, it does not have grass anywhere or the pool right across the street from our site but it has a lot to offer.

Tomorrow we head to Yuma for a week. We hear there is good birding there and a trip to Mexico is on the agenda...
