Prison cemetery
The local high School's mascot is Criminals! Yuma High School began three years before Arizona became a state. 1910, saw the school move to the newly abandoned Yuma Territorial Prison. For the next three years, the prison was to be the home of Yuma High School. Teachers conducted classes in the cellblock area and the school held assemblies in what had been the prison hospital. City officials notified the school in 1912 that they needed the Prison as a city jail. The school board proposed and successfully carried through a bond election to build a new school. Thus, in 1913, school began in the newly constructed Main. That same year, the Yuma football team traveled to Phoenix to play the "Coyotes". Yuma High won. The angry "Coyotes" dubbed the Yuma High players the "Criminals". At first "Criminals" was a fighting word. Before long, students and teachers wore the name with pride, and in 1917, the school board officially adopted the nickname. Yuma High School has been proudly called the home of the "Criminals" ever since.

After a little afternoon birding we headed to:

Salted nut roll (actually tastes like it), Alaskan Crunch, Rocky Road, chocolate and Pistachio. so far we only tasted the Salted nut roll and the rocky road.. both are very good! (Fri) we tasted the alaskan crunch and pistachio. liked the alaskan crunch better than the pistachio. assuming the chocolate will be the same that is in the Rocky Road. (no wonder I am not able to lose any weight!)

Friday Jan 16: our final day in Yuma. Headed out to catch a few birds but again no luck with any new ones... oh well..
We stopped at Martha's garden for a wonderful Date Shake. We might say that this is by far the best one we have had so far. We are also guessing that it will be our last one this year...
Pool time, laundry then rest... weather has been in the low 70's all week, no complaints.
We found Yuma to be fine, don't need to come back here unless they had a great bird migration going on. Happy to be heading out tomorrow to Casa Grande Arizona. We don't have reservations for the next 4 nights, hoping to get into Picacho State Park. Right now they have 14 sites open.
